A philanthropic heart is and has always been imbedded in Brightstar’s DNA, beginning with Chairman and CEO Marcelo Claure, who believes that it is important to give back to the local, national and global communities in which the company operates. Brightstar is a co-founder of the One Laptop per Child (“OLPC”), the Nicholas Negroponte initiative to develop a $100 laptop for children in developing countries, including Latin America. To date, that program has delivered more than 1 million laptops worldwide. Brightstar also has a broader mission to support communities affected by national disasters by making financial contributions and donating equipment. Mr. Claure is a member of the World Economic Forum, an independent, international organization committed to improving the state of the world by engaging leaders in partnerships to shape global, regional and industry agendas.
