In 1968, Turner Construction Company was the first major builder in the country to incorporate a Community Affairs Department into its organizational structure. Since that time, Community Affairs has become an integral part of the company’s operations. Turner’s leaders knew then and continue to understand how vitally important it is to represent and support the communities in which the company does business. Among Turner’s initiatives are Paint the Town Blue, where the company supports more than a dozen organizations with 200 volunteers and 1,382 service hours. Turner instituted the YouthForce 2020 scholarship program in 1989 to promote construction awareness and encourage K-12 students to stay in school while considering the construction industry as a viable career path. Since 1969, Turner’s School of Construction Management has trained more than 30,000 minority and women business owners.
