The mission of the BCBSF Foundation is to improve the health and well-being of Floridians and their communities. The mission reflects the company’s expanding commitment to corporate social responsibility through its philanthropy, as well as five new focus areas: Improving Consumer Health, Improving Access to Health Care, Improving Quality and Safety of Patient Care, Improving the Health Care System and Improving Quality of Life. In 2011, the Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Florida Foundation (BCBSF Foundation) continued to assist uninsured and underserved Floridian’s by making grants to community organizations providing health care to underserved and uninsured Floridians. Through the Foundation’s Improving Consumer Health Program, six nonprofit organizations in diverse, underserved Florida communities were identified and are actively engaged in building coalitions and partnerships to make positive changes in health, healthy eating, the built environment and active living in their communities. The Foundation’s Improving Access to Health Care (IMPACT) Grant Program awarded funds to nonprofit organizations, government agencies and public institutions across the state to increase access to quality, health-related services for Floridians. In 2011, the BCBSF Foundation provided $2,024,000 in new grants to fund 23 nonprofit organizations through its IMPACT Grant Program.
